Ahmedabad: Describing the 51st Foundation Day
of Gujarat as a beginning of golden era, Gujarat Chief
Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday assured that the state`s
development march would be faster than before.

"Today is May 1, Gujarat`s foundation day. In 1960, after
a long struggle and sacrifices of many people, the independent
journey for development of Gujarat state began," Modi said
after paying homage to martyrs of Gujarat movement at Shahid
Smarak in Laldarwaja area of the city.

"This is the place where people participating in the
Maha-Gujarat movement were shot at from the Congress office.

Those demanding separate Gujarat state were jailed where they
faced severe atrocities," he added.

Acknowledging the sacrifice of people for Gujarat, Modi
said, "The golden jubilee year of Gujarat has ended yesterday,
and today marks the beginning of the golden era of Gujarat."

"I assure the people of the state that Gujarat`s
development march will move even faster. It will reach every
village and every poor and underprivileged person. For this my
government is duty-bound," Modi said.

He called Gujaratis across the world to serve Gujarat, in
order to serve the country.

Modi also demanded that there should not be any
differences or controversies on development. "Development
should be our sole objective," he added.
