Gandhinagar: The infant mortality rate in
Gujarat during 2009 was close to five per cent or 48 per 1000
live births, the state Assembly was told on Friday.
Health Minister Jaynarayan Vyas told the House in a
written reply that, "The state government has taken a slew of
measures like improvising the ambulance service to ensure safe
delivery, to bring down the infant mortality rate."
He also informed that children of BPL and tribal
families, between one and 12 months, were being given free
health facilities in 43 talukas of 12 districts in the state.
