RSS not involved on PM candidate issue: Narendra Modi

Nagpur: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday met RSS top brass including its chief Mohan Bhagwat but brushed aside suggestions that the issue of projecting him as prime ministerial candidate for 2014 General Elections was discussed.

"RSS does not get involved in such things," Modi told reporters after the “fruitful” meeting at RSS headquarters here. He was replying to a query on the possibility of his being projected as the prime ministerial candidate.

"I was here after a long time to meet RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, general secretaries Bhayyaji Joshi and Suresh Soni and held cordial discussions with them on various issues," the Chief Minister, who is facing Assembly Elections in Gujarat in December, said.

Modi came to the city on a special aircraft and left immediately after the meeting.

The Gujarat Chief Minister's visit comes in the backdrop of BJP MP Ram Jethmalani suggesting that Modi should be projected as the party's Prime Ministerial candidate for the Lok Sabha polls.

However, the BJP downplayed the meeting, saying it was a "courtesy" call and no "political meaning" should be read into it.

"Narendra Modi or other senior leaders of the party... they keep meeting RSS leaders as courtesy.... This meeting should be looked on those lines only and seeing it more than that or reading any political meaning into it will not be right," BJP spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said in Delhi.

Modi is facing serious challenge from Patels led by Keshu Bhai and Congress this time, this is the reason he visted RSS HQ to keep RSS cadres in good humor. Modi is very shrewd and power hungary politician, he can do anything to stay in power.

Mr M Farooque,Please dont keep on touching that sensitive riot issue, everybody like congress and people like you keep on talking about gujurat riot but then why you forget the Godhra Incident,Burning the ram sevaks was as sinfull as you think the riots were.Lets forget about that bad incident and see how stable and growth oriented governing he has provided to the state of Gujarat.People are blissfully settled, doing good business, feels they are secure.I think he can lead this nation without getting into any sort of appeasment to any section of society.

RSS and Modi must be discussing how to conduct a riot in Gujrat before election so that Modi can win with big margin...

During the regretable post- Godhra episode riots a handful of minority families had left the state for other places- however all of them returned to Gujrat subsequently. The big question is that if Gujrat was so unsafe for them under Modiji, then why did they return? There is more to it than meets the eye and what is portrayed by the Congress and the media- I feel those people are much more secure economically and physically in Gujrat, and that is why they return

@Freid Yes, you are right there is more to it than meets the eye, Modi orchestrated the riot to divide society and win the election in 2002 and now he needs peace to stay in power. With regard to minority family returning to Gujarat, they have their land and home in Gujarat, where else they will go?
