Gandhinagar: In its first official reaction, Gujarat government, Monday, welcomed the Supreme Court ruling in the Gulberg Society case.
Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s close confidant and state Health Minister Jai Narayan Vyas said, “There was no evidence against the Chief Minister of criminal conspiracy in Godhra riots.”
Addressing a press conference in the state capital, Vyas pointed out that the Special Investigation Team was constituted by the apex court because certain sections had raised doubts over the manner in which the riot cases were being probed.
Hitting at the detractors of Modi, the spokesperson of the Gujarat government said, “If certain sections of NGOs had not obstructed in the investigation process then the victims of the riots would have got justice by now.”
Firing more salvos the BJP leader added, “The SIT investigation has set to naught the theory of political conspiracy against the CM’s involvement in the riots”. He also reiterated that the due process of law will be carried out.
Though the waiting journalists outside the Chief Minister’s residence were hoping for a statement by the man of the moment himself, Narendra Modi, it was not to be. But Modi did post a message on the micro-blogging site Twitter, on a day which is being seen as his victory, “God is great”.
