Nine of a family killed in Gujarat building collapse

Nine members of a family including six women were killed today when a five-decade-old building in which they were living collapsed in Junagadh district of Gujarat.

Gujarat.

The mishap took place in the early hours when the two-storeyed house came crashing down killing all the occupants sleeping inside in Prabash Patan town, Junagadh Superintendent of Police Deepankar Trivedi said.

All the bodies have been taken out and at least 30 jawans of National Disaster Management force have been deployed to clear the debris, he said.

The deceased have been identified as Sajjandas Trikotiya, his wife Induben, their three daughters--Deepa, Kanchan and Vaishali alongwith his sister-in-law Chandrika,
her sons--Dinesh and Jagdish-- and daughter Deepa, police said.

District authorities have announced a compensation of Rs one lakh each to the family members of the victims.
