One more arrested in Gujarat RTI activist murder case

One more person was arrested here in connection with the murder of RTI activist Amit Jethwa, police said.

Ahmedabad: One more person was arrested here
today in connection with the murder of RTI activist Amit
Jethwa, police said.

"Udaji Thakor, a resident of Mehsana district, was today
arrested from the city in connection with the murder of the
RTI activist," crime branch officials said.

"He is amongst the two motorcycle borne assailants who
had shot dead Jethwa near the Gujarat High Court," they added.

Two motorcycle-borne men had shot Jethwa on night of July
20.

The police had earlier arrested three persons in
connection with the case, including Pratap Solanki (40),
nephew of BJP MP from Junagadh Dinu Solanki. The other accused
are police constable Bhadursinh Wadher from Junagadh district,
Sanjay Chauhan and Pachan Shiva (28).

Police is on the lookout for the main accused in the case
Shailesh Pandya, who is absconding.

Before he was killed, Jethwa had filed a public interest
litigation (PIL) against alleged illegal mining in Gir region
of Junagadh district, which is considered as the last abode of
Asiatic lions in world.

Bhikabhai Jethwa, father of the deceased had earlier
alleged that BJP MP Dinu Solanki was behind the killing of his
son and claimed that the politician had also threatened him
over telephone on several counts in the past.
