Police constables among three killed in road mishap in Gujarat

Three persons, including two policemen and an accused in their custody, were killed when their jeep collided with a truck at Balva village near Gandhinagar Monday, police said.

Ahmedabad: Three persons, including two policemen and an accused in their custody, were killed when their jeep collided with a truck at Balva village near Gandhinagar Monday, police said.

The personnel of Visnagar city police were headed towards Ahmedabad with the accused when the mishap occurred on Balva-Gozaria Road, they said.

"Primary investigation revealed that five policemen, including a PSI, were travelling in the vehicle along with Bhagatsinh Verma, an accused in a cheating case. They were headed to Ahmedabad in connection with the investigation into the case in which Verma is an accused," said inspector N S Malek of Kalol taluka police station.

The mishap occurred when the vehicle was hit by a speeding Eicher truck carrying steel pipes near Amja village crossroads.

"While two constables, namely Jitendra Rathod and Najibullah Pathan died on the spot, the PSI of Visnagar police, BK Ansari, and another constable Narendra Rathod sustained serious injuries in the mishap. They were rushed to Gandhinagar civil hospital," said Malek.

He said further action is on.
