Surat: Over a dozen persons were injured here Thursday following clashes between police and striking textile workers after they allegedly ransacked an outpost in Ved road area of the city, police said.

More than 15 persons, including two policemen, were injured in the clashes after a mob of striking textile labourers attacked the Pandol police outpost on Ved road and pelted stones at the guards who were deployed in the area since the labourers' agitation began two days ago, they said.

Also, a bus, a police van, an auto rickshaw and four two-wheelers were badly damaged by the unruly mob following which police lobbed four tear gas shells and cane-charged troublemakers to control the situation.

Over 100 people were detained in this connection and all the injured persons have been admitted to the civil hospital for treatment, police said.

They said the situation was under control now and heavy police deployment has been made in the area to curtail violence.

Textile workers of various units of Surat are on strike since the last two days demanding wage revision.
