Indian Posts and Telegraph Department is considering a proposal to bring out a postal stamp commemorating 50 years of National Institute of Design (NID).

Ahmedabad: The Indian Posts and Telegraph Department is considering a proposal to bring out a postal stamp commemorating 50 years of the country`s premier design school National Institute of Design (NID).

Designs of the stamp have been sent to the P&T department for approval, and release during the Golden Jubilee year of the institute.

"We had met the Minister of State (Communication & IT) Gurdas Kamat early this year and discussed about having a postage stamp commemorating the 50 years of the design institute," NID Director Pradyumna Vyas said.
"The designs of postage stamp by one of the students Armeen Kapadia is under the consideration of the P&T department. The approval for the stamp design could take some time and decision on it is expected to come anytime during the year long golden jubilee celebration from November 2010 to November 2011," he said.

"We are hopeful that the Ministry would accept our proposal for a golden jubilee commemorative stamp," he said.

Kapadia, a student of graphic design, has designed it as part of her diploma project.

NID was established on November 3, 1961 for imparting education in design and design-oriented professions.

The postage stamp has been designed to highlight achievements of the students and echo the design philosophy and educational practices of NID.
"During the process, seventeen different concepts for the creation of the commemorative stamp were designed," Kapadia said.

According to Kapadia, a stamp is a powerful insignia, a composite symbol that stands for the history, culture, achievements, and aspirations of a nation or an organisation.

The institute had unveiled the logo to mark 50th anniversary of its year long foundation day celebrations, early this month.

The celebrations would also see the Institute conducting a series of seminars, conferences, workshops, competitions and design exhibitions across the country and overseas as well.
