Gujarat High Court on Friday expressed dissatisfaction about the progress report on probe into the Ishrat Jahan encounter case, submitted by Special Investigation Team.

Ahmedabad: Gujarat High Court on Friday expressed
dissatisfaction about the progress report on probe into the
Ishrat Jahan encounter case, submitted by Special
Investigation Team.

Division bench of Justices Jayant Patel and Abhilasha
Kumari said the progress report of the SIT (formed upon High
Court`s order) headed by IPS officer Karnail Singh was
unsatisfactory.

The court has also taken note of the fact that there are
differences of opinion among the three members of the SIT
which includes IPS officers Satish Verma and Mohan Jha.

The court has directed all the three officers to file
separate progress reports.

SIT, which is probing the 2004 police encounter of Ishrat
Jahan and three others, submitted its progress report in a
sealed cover last Tuesday.

The court today observed that if the SIT was not doing the
job well, it could think of handing over the case to CBI.

Ishrat Jahan, Javed Sheikh alias Pranesh Pillai, Amjad Ali
Rana and Zeeshan Johar were killed on the outskirts of
Ahmedabad on June 15, 2004.

After the encounter, city crime branch had claimed that
the deceased were LeT terrorists who had come to kill Gujarat
Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
