Ahmedabad: A six-member team from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has arrived in Kolat village of Sanand taluka where the Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) -- that has claimed three lives so far -- was detected for the first time in the country.
"A six-member team arrived here today morning and is presently in Kolat where the first case of CCHF was reported," Additional director, health, Dr Paresh Dave said.
"The team`s primary objective is to do a field investigation as to how the tick-borne virus reached a small village here," he said.
The NCDC team is headed by joint director (epidemiology) Dr Anil Kumar, and additional director (Zoonosis) Dr Veena Mittal.
Dave said that the team was expected to remain in field till evening where it would collect samples, talk to people and inspect the site.
Thirty years old Amina Momin of Kolat (about 35 km from here) was the first victim of CCHF. The doctor and nurse of a private hospital who treated her also contracted the virus and died after a week.
When asked if any other person was infected with the CCHF virus, Dave said there were no such cases either in Kolat or in other surrounding villages.
