Jaipur: Spelling more trouble for Gujarat’s tainted former Home Minister Amit Shah, two more IPS officers have reportedly turned prosecution witnesses for the CBI in Soharabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.

According to reports, the two IPS officers -Rajeev Dasot and Virendra Jhala - are from Rajasthan.

Dasot and Jhala were posted in Udaipur when Soharabuddin was gunned down in fake encounter carried out by a joint team of Gujarat and Rajasthan police.

While Dasot was IG, Udaipur Range, Jhala was then Additional SP of the city.
The CBI teams had earlier questioned several IPS officers, including these two while trying to solve the complicated case of Soharabuddin Sheikh’s fake encounter.

According to CBI, the encounter was planned in Rajasthan and executed in Gujarat. The central investigating agency has mentioned the names of these two IPS officers as witnesses in its 30000-page chargesheet among 278 others.

Besides Dasot and Jhala, the CBI sleuths have also quizzed IPS officers Balmukund Joshi and Himlaj Dan in connection with the fake encounter case.
Dasot took charge as IG (Udaipur Range) merely 20 days before Soharabuddin’s encounter. He was earlier posted in BSF. Dasot was earlier given a clean-chit, but his revelations to the CBI later during questioning made the case stronger and the central agency then decided to make him a prosecution witness.
