Vadodara: Alleging that the Congress-led UPA
government was using the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter
case to promote its interests in Gujarat, former BJP president
Rajnath Singh today said his party was ready to fight the case
"politically and legally".
"The Congress is using the Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter
case to promote its vote bank politics," Singh told reporters
"Congress has been finding it difficult to come back to
power in Gujarat due to the ever increasing popularity of
Narendra Modi, who has made Gujarat a model state in the
country. So it wants to use CBI to grab power in the state,"
It should refrain from destabilising the Modi-led BJP
government duly elected by the people of the state or be
prepared to face the consequences, he added.
Singh said BJP was ready to legally and politically fight
the case filed against former Gujarat minister Amit Shah.
"How can you question the integrity of a Home Minister of
a State?" he asked.
"BJP will face the legal challenge presented by the
fabricated prosecution in the court of law. The BJP also
accepts the political challenge thrown by the Congress and
will take the issue to the people of India," he added.
Asserting that Sheikh was a terrorist, Singh wondered why
officers associated with the encounter were being targeted.
