Uproar in RS over misuse of CBI against Guj police

Rajya Sabha was adjourned for 20 minutes today after BJP members raised an uproar over alleged misuse of CBI against Gujarat police.

New Delhi: Rajya Sabha was adjourned for 20
minutes today after BJP members raised an uproar over alleged
misuse of CBI against Gujarat police.

The problem started when Home Minister P Chidambaram was
replying to supplementaries related to a question on fake
encounters by Delhi Police.

BJP member Rajiv Pratap Rudy got up and alleged that CBI
was being misused against certain Gujarat Police officers in
connection with the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.

While a senior Gujarat IPS officer had been sent to police
custody in the Tulsiram Prajapati fake encounter case earlier
this week, at least four senior IPS officers of the state were
questioned by CBI yesterday.

Chairman Hamid Ansari objected to Rudy referring to the
Gujarat issue, saying that the question related to Delhi
Police and anything not related to the listed question would
not be answered by the minister.

At this, BJP deputy leader S S Ahluwalia got up and said
that the Home Minister was ready to respond to the question,
even as Chidambaram asked him to have patience.

Several BJP members including Rudy, Rudra Narayan Pany and
Anil Dave raised slogans asking the government not to misuse
CBI. Congress members Rajeev Shukla and B K Hariprasad also
got up to counter the opposition attack.

But, BJP members continued shouting slogans and threatened
to storm the well. Ahluwalia said previously too the Home
Minister has answered supplementaries even if they were not
related to the listed questions.

Amid pandemonium, Ansari adjourned the House for 20
minutes till 12 noon.
