Bishnoi resigns from Haryana Assembly

Bishnoi was last week elected to the Lok Sabha by over 6,300 votes against his nearest rival, Ajay Singh Chautala, of the INLD.

Chandigarh: Following his election to the Lok Sabha from Hisar, Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) president Kuldeep Bishnoi resigned as legislator from the state Assembly on Monday.
Haryana Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Sharma said the resignation had been accepted.

Bishnoi, son of former chief minister Bhajan Lal, was a legislator from Adampur seat in Hisar district. The seat is a traditional stronghold of the Bhajan Lal family.

Sharma said the resignation would be forwarded to the Election Commission, after which by-election would be held in Adampur.

The HJC bagged six seats in the 90-member assembly in 2009. However, five HJC legislators, barring Bishnoi, defected to the ruling Congress in November 2009.

Bishnoi was last week elected to the Lok Sabha by over 6,300 votes against his nearest rival, Ajay Singh Chautala, of the Indian National Lok Dal.

Congress candidate Jai Prakash lost his security deposit.
