CM should resign for failing to maintain law and order: INLD

Chautala claimed that corruption had increased under the Congress rule in Haryana, whereas law and order had crumbled.

New Delhi: Criticising the Congress government in Haryana for clashes in which three persons were killed in Rohtak, INLD on Monday demanded that Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda step down for "failing to maintain law and order".

"It is the responsibility of the chief minister, who also holds the home portfolio in Haryana, to uphold law and order in the state.

"For failing to maintain law and order, the CM should resign and fresh election should be held in the state so that a new government can restore law and order," Indian National Lok Dal leader Abhay Chautala told reporters here.

Three persons were killed and about 100 others injured in yesterday`s clash between two groups over an ashram in Rohtak`s Karontha village. Hooda has ordered a magisterial probe by an Additional District Magistrate into the matter.

Chautala demanded that a sitting judge of the High Court should conduct enquiry into the incident and said strict action should be taken against the officials on whose orders police had resorted to firing.

The INLD leader alleged that the administration and the Chief Minister had been aware of the seriousness of the situation but took no steps to defuse the tension.

He said his party would approach the President for the dismissal of the Haryana government and also meet the families of the deceased to appeal for peace.

Chautala claimed that corruption had increased under the Congress rule in Haryana, whereas law and order had crumbled.

The row over possession of Satlok Ashram, headed by Rampal at Karontha village, 10 km from here, took a violent turn yesterday when policemen tried to stop protesting members from Arya Pratinidhi Sabha (APS) from marching towards the ashram.

Tension had been brewing in the area over the ashram as Arya Samajis claim that the ownership of the dera is illegal and its presence is affecting peace in the region.

The ashram followers had filed a petition before court which in its judgement had ordered to maintain a status quo and asked the authorities to provide safety and security to the dera followers.
