Chandigarh: Freezing cold waves swept across Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh on Monday with most places registering season`s coldest night even as Adampur in Jalandhar district was the coldest place in the plains at minus 2.4 degrees Celsius.
Adampur recorded season`s coldest night with minimum temperature dropping six degrees below normal as there was no let up in severe cold wave which had most places in the region under its grip for the past few days.
Narnaul and Hisar in Haryana reeled under sub-zero temperatures of minus 0.5 deg C, seven notches below normal and minus 0.1 deg C, also down seven degrees, the MeT office said here.
Bhiwani also experienced the chill at 0.8 deg C, the town`s coldest night so far, while Ambala`s low settled at 3.7 deg C, down two degrees.
As mercury further fell today across the region, Amritsar shivered at a low of 0.8 deg C, two below normal, while Ludhiana residents, too, experienced the bone-chilling low of 1 deg C, down six degrees.
Patiala recorded a low of 2.3 deg C, down five degrees.
Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, also witnessed a further fall in night temperatures recording a low of 3.4 deg C today, three below normal.
Cold wave conditions are likely to continue in the region over the next few days, a MeT official said.
