Shimla: Haryana government would keep the interests of the Sikh community in mind and honour their sentiments on the issue of formation of a separate gurdwara prabandhak committee, Chief Minister BS Hooda said on Wednesday.

Talking to mediapersons after inaugurating the renovated Circuit House of Haryana at Benmoor here, he said a committee appointed by the government in this regard has submitted its report which was being legally examined by the government.

The Chief Minister had appointed the committee during his previous term and it submitted its report in February 2009, after nearly four years and the government was examining the report for the past more than two years.

Referring to the role of Khap Panchayats and Supreme Court directions on honour killings, the chief minister said these khap panchayats were like unregistered NGOs and have some good social work also.

However, the government was implementing the directions of the Supreme Court and no one was above law, he added.
