Gurgaon: The election officials have appealed the residents here to not become 'pappus' and turn out in large numbers to vote during the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled on October 15.

"We are appealing people to not become 'pappus' particularly in the areas where the turnout has been traditionally low in past elections," said PS Chouhan, Returning Officer of Badshahpur assembly segment here.

"In areas including DLF, Palam Vihar, New Gurgaon among others the turnout has been low despite the literacy rate being high here, which raises eyebrows as to why the educated and affluent people do not come out to cast their votes." he added.

In a popular ad campaign, the election commission had urged voters "Do not become Pappu, go and vote."
