Haryana and Punjab gripped by cold wave

In Punjab, cold conditions continued to prevail in Amritsar, with minimum settling at 3.1 degree Celsius, down four notches.

Chandigarh: There was no respite from cold conditions in Haryana and Punjab as minimum temperatures at most places remained below normal on Thursday with mercury hovering close to the freezing point at Hisar and Karnal.
Hisar and Karnal in Haryana recorded identical minimum temperatures of 1.4 degrees Celsius each, down by record nine and eight notches, respectively, the MeT Department said.
Narnaul also shivered under biting cold at 2.5 degrees Celsius, down six notches while Bhiwani`s minimum dropped by five notches to settle at 3.2 degree Celsius.

There was no respite from cold for the people of Rohtak, where the minimum was recorded at 4.1 degrees Celsius, down six notches. Ambala, too, experienced a cold night at 5.6 degree Celsius, three below normal.

Night temperature in Chandigarh dropped by five notches to settle at 4.8 degree Celsius.

In Punjab, cold conditions continued to prevail in Amritsar, with minimum settling at 3.1 degree Celsius, down four notches.

Patiala also shivered under cold at 3.2 degree Celsius minimum, seven notches below normal while Ludhiana`s low of 4 degree Celsius was down by six notches.

The MeT has forecasted minimum temperatures in the region to hover below normal levels tomorrow also.
