Chandigarh: Haryana's Agriculture Minister OP Dhankar on Wednesday criticized the diktat issued by the Hindu Mahasabha in the state, saying it has no relevance, and there is no need to give the group any importance.
He was reacting to the Hindu Mahasabha's diktat advising young women not to wear knee-length jeans or skirts, or use mobile phones, as these items were the prime reason for crimes being committed against them.
"It has no existence in Haryana. There is no need to give them any importance via media," Dhankar said. "Khap has lot of intelligent people. They are in favor of modernization and serving the society," he added.
The Hindu Mahasabha diktat was issued a day after the Manohar Lal Khattar-led BJP government took charge in the state.
The latest dress code diktat is being seen as challenging the new government's authority.
