Yamunanagar: Police teams today searched
former Inspector General of Police M S Ahlawat, facing a case
of alleged molestation of a woman lawyer in Uttar Pradesh and
also in Haryana.
"We haven’t succeeded in tracing him so far. Our teams
had earlier searched for him in parts of Haryana and Delhi and
some places in UP Today also, they continued to vigorously
search for him in some parts of UP and Haryana," a police
official said here.
Ahlawat`s anticipatory bail was recently dismissed by a
Yamunanagar court in a case of alleged molestation of a woman
lawyer eight years ago, after which the police issued lookout
notice and alerted airports against him to prevent him from
fleeing the country.
A Yamunanagar based woman lawyer had last week lodged
a complaint with the police, charging Ahlawat with sexually
harassing her when he was the Yamunanagar SP in 2002.
Meanwhile, the victim while pleading for transparent
investigation into the molestation case, yesterday wrote a
letter to the Chief Justice of India.
She urged the Apex Court`s CJI to treat her letter as
Public Interest Litigation (PIL) for a "transparent probe"
into her molestation case.
She also urged the Apex Court that in cases related to
sexual harassment of women and children, the court should also
issue a notice to the victims before deciding the anticipatory
bail of the accused "because many times the police fails to
present the case properly".
