Mewat: The Police and animal husbandry department have collected samples from meat-sellers across Mewat in the wake of the reports of beef biryani being sold in several areas of the Haryana’s Muslim-dominant district.
The samples have been sent for examination to a laboratory in Hisar’s Haryana Agricultural University on the orders issued by Gau Sewa Aayog chairman Bhani Ram Mangla and Cow Protection Task Force in-charge, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Bharti Arora.
Talking to The Hindu, Mangla said there were reports of beef biryani being sold from across Mewat, including towns and villages such as Nuh, Ferozpur Jhirka, Nagina, Punhana, Bhadas, Shah Chokha, Shikrawa, Rawli and directions were issued to the district police to lift samples from shops, hotels and rehriwalas (roadside vendors) selling meat and biryani.
He further underlined that an action would be taken if beef was found in the samples.
As per a government official, more samples will be collected from across the district as the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha or Bakr-Id will be celebrated next week.
Meanwhile, Bharti Arora, CPTF’s nodal officer, said that there were complaints of cow smuggling and slaughtering from various areas in Mewat.
Under the Haryana Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gausamvardhan Act, cow slaughter is completely banned in the state and there is strict punishment for the same. Sale of beef is also banned in the state under the Act.
