Haryana renames five state-level awards after national heroes

The Haryana government has renamed five state-level awards given in different fields after national heroes, a state minister said on Sunday.

Chandigarh: The Haryana government has
renamed five state-level awards given in different fields
after national heroes, a state minister said on Sunday.

"This has been done to enhance the prestige of these
awards," an official release here today quoting state`s
Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Geeta Bhukkal said.

After re-naming, the Best Mother Award would now be called
as Mother Teresa Award, likewise Courage and Bravery Award as
Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Courage and Bravery Award, Best
Panchayat Award as Mahatma Gandhi Panchayat Award, Lifetime
Achievement Award as Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Life Achievement
Award and Senior Citizen Award as Ranbir Singh Centenarian
Award.

These awards of Rs 1 lakh each were instituted by Social
Justice and Empowerment Department in 2008, she added.
