Haryana Roadways to pay Rs 47 lakh to accident victim`s kin

New Delhi: Family members of a man, who died in a road accident involving a rashly-driven Haryana Roadways bus, have been given a compensation of over Rs 47 lakh by Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) here.

The tribunal directed Haryana Roadways to pay Rs47,17,300 through ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company Ltd, with which the bus was insured, to the wife and two sons of Anoop Singh who died in the accident. "On considering the documents placed on record and on an analysis of testimony of the witnesses, the reasonable inference which can be drawn in the case is that the accident had occurred due to rash and negligent driving of the bus by the respondent no 2 (driver). The accident resulted into death of Anoop Singh. "As per postmortem report, his cause of death was shock caused by extensive liver injury and internal hemorrhage," MACT Presiding Officer Sanjiv Jain said. Singh`s wife, resident of Lodhi Colony, said the accident took place on May 22, 2010 when she, her husband and their son were going from Delhi to Himachal Pradesh in a car. When they reached near Ambala at around 2-3 pm, a Haryana Roadways bus, driven by its driver in a rash and negligent manner hit their car and crushed its front cover. 44-year-old Singh was driving the car and his wife Anjana Patial and their son were sitting on the back seat. She said due to the impact she became unconscious and on the next day she came to know that her husband had died. The woman had said that she and her son had also received injuries and denied that the accident took place due to negligent driving of her husband. She said Singh was doing a business of supplying and decorating flowers in five-star hotels and was earning Rs 30,000 to Rs 35,000 per month. The court rejected the bus driver`s claim that there was no negligence on his part and the accident had taken place due to negligence of Singh who was driving the car at a high speed. PTI
