Kurukshetra: Haryana Sikh Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (ad hoc) on Sunday decided to intensify its stir demanding control of gurdwaras in the state.
"Our leaders will go on fast unto death from October five till the formation of a separate SGPC for gurdwaras in the state," Jarnail Singh, Executive President of the Committee,
A group of agitators on Sunday took out a march from near Devi Lal Chowk to the Chhavin Patshahi Gurudwara, burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal and courted arrest, he said. Till Saturday, 11 members of the HSGPC were arrested for defying prohibitory orders in the periphery of the Chhavin Patshahi Gurudwara promulgated by the District Magistrate on September 12.
The Sikhs in Haryana have been alleging that the Amritsar-based SGPC was ignoring the shrines in the state though a considerable amount of funds were collected from them. The protestors had recently forcibly tried to take control of the SGPC-run Gurdwaras in the state.
