JBT scam: HC extends interim bail of Ajay Chautala, two others
Delhi High Court extended till May 9 the interim bail of Ajay Singh Chautala, MLA-son of former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, who has been sentenced along with his father in teachers` recruitment scam case.
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday extended till May 9 the interim bail of Ajay Singh Chautala, MLA-son of former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, who has been sentenced along with his father in teachers` recruitment scam case.
Justice Siddharth Mridul also extended the bail of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) MLA Sher Singh Badshami and Om Prakash Chautala`s former Officer on Special Duty Vidya Dhar till May 16 and May 9 respectively.
The bail of all the three was extended on health grounds.
The bail of four others, convicted and sentenced in the case, was extended by the court for various durations while directing CBI to verify the documents and medical records of 13 others and submit a report by May 9, the next date of hearing.
Twenty of the total 55 convicts in the case have sought bail on various grounds.
Senior advocate N Hariharan and advocate Amit Sahni, appearing for Ajay Chautala, sought extension of bail on the ground that he is to undergo left atrial appendage occlusion, treatment to prevent blood clot formation in patients suffering from atrial fibrillation.
Chautala is suffering from atrial fibrillation.
Badshami is suffering from acute sinusitus for which he has undergone two surgeries.
On January 22, 2013, a special CBI court had convicted and sentenced Ajay Chautala, Om Prakash Chautala and eight others, including Vidya Dhar and Badshami, to 10 years jail term for illegally recruiting 3,206 junior teachers in the year 2000.
Among other convicts, 44 have been sentenced to four years in jail and one to five-year jail term.
All of them were held guilty of cheating, forgery, using fake documents as genuine, conspiracy under IPC and for abusing their official position under Prevention of Corruption Act.
