Keen triangular contest for Hisar LS seat

The bypoll will also be a test for Om Parkash Chautala and his INLD to prove that it can take on Congress in the Jat-dominated state.

Hisar: The Hisar Lok Sabha bye-election next
month is poised to witness a triangular fight with the Haryana
Janhit Congress (HJC) tying up with BJP.

The seat has fallen vacant after the demise of former
chief minister Bhajan Lal, who had won it in 2009 by defeating
the then INLD candidate Sampat Singh by a margin of 6,983
votes.

The October 13 by-poll will not only be a prestige issue
for Kuldeep Bishnoi of HJC to retain the seat of his father,
but will also be a litmus test for Chief Minister Bhupinder
Singh Hooda to prove his popularity in the state, according to
political observers.

The bypoll will also be a test for Om Parkash Chautala
and his INLD to prove that it can take on Congress in the
Jat-dominated state.

While INLD has already declared the name of Ajay Singh
Chautala, son of former Chief Minister Om Parkash Chautala, as
its candidate, Kuldeep Bishnoi`s name was today announced as
the candidate for the Haryana Janhit Congress (BL) and BJP
alliance.

Stakes are high for Bishnoi to save the prestige of the
family and seat, and for Hooda to prove that Congress is a
force to reckon with. At the same time, Chautala will try to
prove his popularity as his son is in the fray.

For Congress, as many as five aspirants are in the race
for the seat.
