Gurgaon: Over 4000 residents of the
colonies located around the IAF ammunition depot blocked the
Atul Kataria chowk here on Monday protesting against the
administration`s plans to demolish their colonies.

The district administration said only commercial
establishments will be demolished.

"No houses located within the 900 m radius of the
ammunition depot will be demolished but the administration
plans to demolish only around twenty commercial establishments
like shops, banquet hall and restaurants which are located
adjacent to the wall of the ammunition depot," Gurgaon Deputy
Commissioner Rajendra Kataria said.

Besides damaging two government vehicles, youths,
carrying hockey sticks and iron rods, were even seen
threatening the commuters.

Kataria asserted that no one will be displaced from
their dwelling units.

The administration, however, claimed that these
colonies have been constructed illegally and the
administration is bound to follow the order of the Punjab and
Haryana High Courts, which have directed the administration to
demolish these illegal colonies.

Former speaker of Haryana Vidhan Sabha Gopichand
Gehlot was seen exhorting the protesters to continue their
protests.
