Religious idol removed to end communal dispute in Jind

Police personnel in presence of district officials have removed a religious idol which was installed on a plot here which had led to tension between two communities, police said on Sunday.

The idol was removed late last night by police personnel in presence of district officials, police said.

Most of the people who were sitting there had already left for their homes before the idol was removed and rest were peacefully sent too, they said.

Police force is still deployed at the spot to prevent any untoward situation, they said.

Some people had yesterday installed a religious idol on a plot in front of Tanga chowk following which people from other community objected, claiming that it was their land.

By evening, the community which had installed the idol gathered there in large numbers and claimed that the land belonged to them.

SDM Yogesh Mehta had then reached the spot along with police and attempted to resolve the situation.
