Chandigarh: After a poor showing in 2001 census, the Haryana has registered a slight improvement with 879 females per 1,000 males in the state in the latest census.
The CSR recorded in 2001 was 861 females per 1,000 males in the state.
"The CSR in 2011 has improved in Haryana after poor showing in 2001 census. While rural sex ratio has increased to 882 from 866, the urban one has gone up from 847 to 873," Deputy Director, Haryana Census Operations, Vinod Babbar told reporters here.
The sex ratio of population in the country in 2011 stands at 943 female against 1,000 males, which is 10 per cent more than the last census when the number female per thousand male stood at 933, he said.
Though the child sex ratio in the age group 0-6 has increased to 834 from 819 of 2001 census, it remained the lowest in India followed by 846 in Punjab and 862 in Jammu and Kashmir.
Babbar said the literacy rate has also increased to 75.6 per cent in 2011 from 67.9 of 2001 as compared to 73 per cent in India.
