Six month term to Rathore was error: Court

The 6-month sentence to former Haryana DGP for molesting Ruchika was error, says court.

Chandigarh: The local court which enhanced
the sentence of SPS Rathore to 18 months in prison in Ruchika
molestation case, has said the six-month imprisonment handed
down to the former Haryana DGP earlier by a CBI court was an
"error".

"The trial court fell in error by awarding rigorous
imprisonment of six months to the convict. The trial court
was required to minutely consider the conduct of the convict
after the occurrence and during trial of the case," Additional
District and Sessions Judge Gurbir Singh said in his 103-page
order yesterday.

A CBI court here in December last year had awarded a
lighter six month prison term to Rathore in the case.

On Ruchika`s expulsion from Sacred Heart School here in
the wake of her molestation, the court has observed that it
was the result of direct or indirect influence of the former
Haryana police chief on school authorities.
