New Delhi: Delhi police on Friday claimed to
have busted a spurious drug racket in Delhi and Haryana by
arresting three persons and recovering a huge stock of fake
medicines.
Besides spurious drugs worth more than Rs 24 lakh, the
Crime Branch team also unearthed a manufacturing plant with
machines worth more than Rs 30 lakh in Faridabad, and rubber
stamps used for marking the manufacturing and expiry dates and
batch number among other details.
Police said they seized 414 boxes of Voveran pain
killer, 1,660 boxes of Pan-40 antacid tablets, and 12
kilograms of loose Centum-500 tablets among other drugs.
Acting on information about a spurious medicine racket
on July 11, police arrested 55-year old Daya Shankar Misra of
Faridabad, who is originally from Gorakhpur in UP and 52-year
old Dinesh Sahu, a resident of Bahraich in UP.
On interrogation, the two persons revealed more
details of their racket and more names associated with it.
Another person, 35-year-old Moti Lal, who was working
for Daya, was arrested two days later but two persons are
still absconding in the case.
The manufacturing unit was found in Faridabad.
During interrogation, it was found that the two
persons sold their produce through agents in West Bengal,
Bihar, Jharkhand and Hyderabad.
All these medicines were sent by courier and private
transport.
The spurious medicines were sold at a much cheaper
price than the original ones.
According to rough estimates of the police, the group
has already supplied fake medicine worth Rs eight crore in
Delhi and other states in the past five years.
