UNICEF says over 180,000 teenagers living with HIV in Nigeria

Beijing: More than 180,000 teenagers are living with HIV in Nigeria, the United Nation Children Education Fund (UNICEF) said here on Tuesday.

The figure was released during a national dialogue on adolescents living with HIV in Nigeria to bring relief to the young patients.

The dialogue was organized by the Positive Action for Treatment Access (PATA) in collaboration with UNICEF and the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), a non-governmental organization working to ensure that every individual has access to equitable health services.

Though Nigeria has done a lot for the young in prevention, more work is needed to address the needs of adolescents living with HIV.

Speaking during the dialogue, Director General of NACA John Idoko said it was heart warming that PATA has taken interest in adolescents living with HIV in Nigeria.
