Another US doctor tests positive for Ebola in Liberia

An American doctor working in Liberia battling West Africa`s Ebola epidemic has tested positive for the deadly virus, his aid group SIM USA confirmed on Tuesday.

New Delhi: An American doctor working in Liberia battling West Africa`s Ebola epidemic has tested positive for the deadly virus, his aid group SIM USA confirmed on Tuesday.

The infected doctor was treating obstetrics patients at ELWA hospital in Monrovia and was not working in the hospital's Ebola isolation unit, the aid group SIM USA said in a statement.

It is not yet known how the doctor contracted the virus specifically.

SIM USA was quoted saying: “Upon onset of the symptoms, the doctor immediately isolated himself and has since been transferred to the ELWA Ebola isolation unit”.

“The doctor is doing well and is in good spirits”.

The doctor is the third US citizen to become infected with the deadly virus in the current Ebola outbreak in West Africa.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), the deadly virus for which there is no treatment or vaccine, has claimed 1,552 lives out of 3,069 reported cases, including 694 in Liberia, 430 in Guinea, 422 in Sierra Leone and six in Nigeria.
