London: A 17-day-old infant has become the youngest Briton to have a corneal transplant.
Eva Joyce, now four months old, has a rare congenital condition and was born blind, a newspaper reported.
She had surgery on her right eye when just 17 days old, and later a transplant in her left eye when she was four weeks.
Her 33-year-old mother Harriet, of Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, said the medical staff at the Birmingham Children`s Hospital "were great".
Eva`s father Matthew, 34, added: "When we turned the Christmas lights on, her eyes lit up, which was very special."
