65-year-old tests positive for swine flu

In the first swine flu case detected this year in Odisha, a 65-year-old man from the outskirts of Bhubaneswar was tested positive for H1N1 virus.

Bhubaneswar: In the first swine flu case detected this year in Odisha, a 65-year-old man from the outskirts of Bhubaneswar was tested positive for H1N1 virus.

Regional Medical Research Centre Director S K Kar Sunday said a sample of the man from Balipatna area, who was admitted to a private hospital here, was tested positive for swine flu.

The patient, whose condition is stable, had recently returned after a visit to some places in north India, he said, adding, three other samples received from another private hospital in the city were tested negative for swine flu.

The man, who was admitted to the hospital on January 6, with respiratory problem, is now undergoing treatment in isolation ward after the diagnosis.

Following detection of the case, the health authorities have sounded a general alert and asked medical colleges and medical officers to remain vigilant, officials said.

People have been advised not to neglect flu symptoms and consult doctor without delay.
