Chennai: Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad today received an award in recognition of the landmark achievement of India completing two years with no newly reported cases of polio.
The award, consisting of a memento, was presented to Azad jointly by Gita Rao Gupta, Executive Director of UNICEF, Elen Evans, Deputy CEO of GAVI Alliance (Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization), an organisation specialising in creating awareness about vaccination, and Ms Lis Mason, Director of the WHO.
The award and memento were handed over to him on the second day of the Call for Action Summit being held at Mammallapuram near here.
Anuradha Gupta, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, was also present, an official release said.
