And it’s not that everyone needs a psychiatrist or pills to find relief from depression and its symptoms. Perhaps changes in lifestyle can improve depression symptoms in some people. These changes can also help you live a better and happier life. Below are various methods to help you deal with depression: Turn to family members or trusted friends: At this point of time, sharing your problems with the people you love and trust the most will help you overcome this tough time. Ask for their help and support at this rough phase of life. Go out with positive people: Learn from people who deal with challenges happily in the face of adversity. It’s hard to pretend but try to adopt their cheerfulness and perseverance in times of difficulty. Get some sunlight: Make sure that you get enough sunlight by taking a short walk, say for 15 minutes. Sunlight deficiency can worsen depression. Also, exposure to the sun helps regulate one’s internal clock and ensures a good night sleep. Exercise regularly: Exercise is one of the best and powerful tools for dealing with depression. Studies have shown that regular exercise can be as effective as antidepressant medication .You can aim for 30 minutes of exercise per day. Eat a healthy diet: Eat a healthy diet rich in B vitamins, which is found in whole grains and healthy fats (found in nuts, oily fish, olive oil). Eating a diet rich in vitamins B and healthy fats can help ward off depression. Take enough Omega 3 fatty acid (found in fatty fish like salmon and from certain brands of eggs), which helps your body’s neuron connectivity. Get enough sleep: Have regular bed time- go to sleep at the same time every night. Depression is normally linked to sleep problems. Aim to sleep for 8 hours every day. Try reading a book before bed if you have problem falling asleep. Seek a doctor: In case you have tried all the above techniques but you still have depressing feelings, then always seek a doctor to avoid further possible health complications.
