Bill Gates meets Jairam Ramesh in Delhi
New Delhi: Microsoft founder Bill Gates, who is on a brief visit to India, met Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh here.
According to media reports, Ramesh has invited Gates to launch partnerships for developing inexpensive sanitation solutions in the country.
Reportedly, Ramesh also asked for support in creating behavioural change and communication pilot models like the pulse polio campaign for toilet use in India.
Earlier, Gates met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and discussed the state of healthcare programmes in the state, which his charitable foundation intends to sponsor.
Gates met Yadav at his official residence in Lucknow along with members of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, a charitable organisation that he runs along with his wife.
MLA Anupriya Patel said that some districts had been identified by the foundation to flourish under its programme.
"We had a meeting with Mr. Bill Gates and some welfare schemes in Uttar Pradesh are being invited by his foundation. The state government and his foundation want to work together on some welfare schemes and process will start from some selected districts," Patel told media about the meeting.
"Right now, we did not have such detailed discussion and the honourable Chief Minister would be in the best position to brief journalists on this meeting in detail," she added, when asked about the other issues that were discussed and whether there was any talk on investment.
