New Delhi: Union Social Justice Minister Thaawar Chand Gehlot on Saturday said a composite regional centre for differently-abled persons will be established in Madhya Pradesh.
Gehlot, on the margins of an event organised for free distribution of assistive aids and devices for differently- abled persons at Raisen in Madhya Pradesh, said a composite regional centre for such persons will be set up at a cost of Rs 50 crore in the state, an official statement quoting the minister said here.
He urged Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan to provide land for the centre, it added.
Stating that the Union government is fully committed for empowerment of the differently-abled persons, the minister lauded the performance of Indian team which recently won the Blind Cricket World Cup.
In her address, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said the government is providing modern devices and appliances to the differently-abled persons for their mobility and enabling them to lead a normal life, the statement said.
Presiding over the function, the Madhya Pradesh chief minister said that the state government has launched several schemes for the socio-economic development of the differently- abled persons.
