Condition of one of separated conjoined twins steady

Betul: The condition of Stuti, who was surgically separated from her conjoined sister Aradhana, at a hospital here is "steady," a senior doctor said Saturday.

Stuti and Aradhana were separated on June 20 after a complex day-long operation conducted by a team of 34 medical experts, including 23 doctors, drawn from India and abroad, at a Missionary Hospital in Padhar.

The one-year-old sisters, who were joined at the heart and liver, were separated in the operation carried out in four phases.

"The ventilator which had been put on Stuti was removed this morning and she not only moved her body but also opened her eyes," hospital superintendent Dr Rajiv Choudhary said.

However, there has been no change in Aradhana`s condition and she will be kept on ventilator support for 72 more hours, he said, adding that it might be removed on Monday.

While Stuti`s urine and stool samples tested normal, this was not the case with Aradhana, he said without elaborating.
