Bengaluru: The death toll due to swine flu in Karnataka has risen to 10 and government has taken steps to tackle the challenge, state Health and Family Minister U T Khader said Monday.

"The death toll due to H1N1 (swine flu) has risen to 10 in Karnataka and government has taken steps to tackle the challenge," he said in the State Legislative Council here.

Responding to the concerns raised by members, he said as many as 106 persons are undergoing treatment for the disease.

"The deaths have been reported from Gadag, Vijayapura, Ballari, Bengaluru Rural and Bengaluru Urban districts," he added.

The minister however did not mention the period during which the deaths had occurred.

Khader said that apart from making available medicines, isolation wards have been set up in all taluka and district hospitals as part of arrangements to check spread of the disease.

More diagnostic centres would be set up in the state, of which five would come up in Northern Karnataka, he said.
