New Delhi: The measles outbreak in Southern California Disney theme parks in December last year has now risen to a huge number of 102, in 14 states of the United States.
Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued an advisory report to provide guidance for the nation's health care facilities and public health departments.
The disease outbreak became apparent when visitors reported coming down with measles after visiting the Southern California Disney theme parks in December.
Measles was officially eradicated from the United States since 2000 while remaining widespread in other regions including Europe, Africa and Asia.
The disease is highly contagious and can be spread through air without physical contact. Infection usually begins with a fever followed by cough, runny nose, conjunctivitis and rashes in the body.
Complications of measles include hearing loss, pneumonia and swelling of the brain, according to the CDC. About one or two out of every 1,000 people infected with measles usually don't survive and succumb to the disease.
