Egg freezing tech useful for working women

New Delhi, July 12: Now professional women in their 30s may afford to bother less about their biological clocks ticking away as a new technique may just help them in having children quite late in their lives.

The technique -- oocyte freezing or egg freezing -- where the ovum from a healthy woman is taken and stored for future use is becoming popular among higher income groups, doctors say.

"This technique is being used for lifestyle reasons. Highly-educated professional women aged between 30 and 35 years who have not found their match and would like to delay marriage are going in for egg freezing," says Dr Hrishikesh Pai, a fertility expert.

Doctors feel that the right age of a woman to have children is before 30, after which the ovum quality slowly reduces.

"After 37, fertility in females becomes very low. Thirty-seven is the watershed year for having children after which women find it difficult to conceive naturally," says Dr Shivani Sachdev Gaur, an expert.

But today`s working women feel that the era of getting married just for having children is passe.

"Mental and physical compatibility and not age are issues for me while getting married," says 30-year-old banker Ananya Singh.
