Encephalitis toll in Bengal reaches 206

Kolkata: Four deaths due to different types of encephalitis have been reported from the state in the last 24 hours taking the toll since January to 206, a senior officer said here today.

"In the last 24 hours four deaths have been reported. Among them, two were from north Bengal and two from Murshidabad and another from Bishnupur," West Bengal Health Services Director Biswaranjan Satpathy told PTI.

Taking into account all the four deaths in the last 24 hours, the toll rose to 206 in the state since January, this year, he said.

In north Bengal, one person from Coochbehar district died at the Siliguri District Hospital while another, from Dakshin Dinajpur district, died at the Balurghat Hospital due to Acute Encephalitis (AEs), Satpathy said.

The other two persons died due to the disease were from Murshidabad and Bishnupur, he added.
