Health care service in Puducherry in doldrums: Narayanasamy

AICC General Secretary and former Union Minister V Narayanasamy today charged the ruling AINRC with failing to ensure uninterrupted availability of drugs, full time doctors and other infrastructures in government hospitals and Primary Health Centres in the Union Territory.

Puducherry: AICC General Secretary and former Union Minister V Narayanasamy on Saturday charged the ruling AINRC with failing to ensure uninterrupted availability of drugs, full time doctors and other infrastructures in government hospitals and Primary Health Centres in the Union Territory.

He said functionaries of opposition Congress had done sample surveys by visiting some hospitals in Ariyankuppam and Tirukanoor blocks, where patients complained that the hospitals lack adequate drugs, particularly life saving ones and that they were being manned by doctors working on contract basis.

Want of full time doctors had been affecting services of the hospitals particularly during nights to take care of emergency patients, he said.

Narayanasamy claimed that when Congress was in power, care was taken to ensure that government hospitals were fully equipped with drugs and sufficient doctors were posted. But now the hospitals were left high and dry without remedial measures. Drug suppliers were also not responding to provide medicines as hefty amounts remained outstanding from the government, he alleged.

He alleged that Chief Minister Rangasamy hardly visited hospitals in villages to ascertain the health care status. The NDA government at the Centre was also not releasing sufficient funds for the health department here, he said and demanded that Puducherry government take steps to revamp the hospitals without delay.
