Coimbatore: Nestle seems to be in a lot of trouble these days! The company has already been the topic of a raging controversy over high lead content in Maggi noodles, and now a sample of it’s milk powder has been deemed unsafe by the Tamil Nadu Food Safety Wing.

Tamil Nadu Food Safety and Drug Administration Department (Food Safety Wing) in Coimbatore has declared Nestle NAN PRO 3, a milk powder for infants unfit for consumption.

The development came after K Prem Ananth, a taxi driver from Puliakulam, approached the TN Food Safety Wing and submitted samples of the milk powder for testing.

Prem Ananth had purchased the Nestle NAN PRO 3 carton to feed his twins. One of the infants had already been fed with it and while he was preparing the baby formula for the other twin he found live larvae in the powder.

A report from analysts at the Food Analysis Laboratory, Coimbatore, confirmed that the 380 gm sample contained 28 live larvae and 22 Sitophilus oryzae (rice weevils).

A complaint with the Food Safety Cell, Coimbatore has been filed by Prem Ananth. Nestle is yet to respond over the matter.
