New Delhi: The most promising data on drug that will help in treating the Alzheimer's disease is set to be revealed today.

According to BBC, this new drug could become the first medication to slow the pace of brain decline.

The new treatment is called Solanezumab and the trial has been going on for a while now.

Solanezumab, is an antibody that targets deformed proteins called amyloid which causes Alzheimer's disease.

The drug giant Eli Lilly on Wednesday will announce the result of the trial at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference.

If the result is positive then it could be the first drug proven to be affecting in treating Alzheimer's disease.

Earlier, the initial trial for this treatment failed but researchers worked on the data and found out that it seemed effective on people with mild symptoms and launched a study.

Data to be released on Wednesday could be a breakthrough drug but a fresh clinical trial is expected to report next year.

Alzheimer's disease is mental deterioration that can occur in middle or old age which gets worse as it progresses. The disease is caused by proteins which build up in the brain.
