New impotency drug 15 mins faster than Viagra

New York: An impotency drug that is effective in just 15 minutes has been claimed to pip blockbuster rivals Viagra and Cialis.

Biotech firm Vivus unwrapped the class three investigational drug, Avanafil, said to be in its last step before getting clearance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

"The magnitude of success in the first 15 minutes was surprising," the Independent quoted Leland Wilson, the company’s CEO, as saying in a statement.

The company is expecting to launch the drug in the 3.7-billion-dollar erectile dysfunction market in early 2012.

Wilson added, "This new data further strengthens the profile and differentiation of Avanafil from other currently available oral ED therapies.”

Pfizer, which makes Viagra, says its drug acts within 30 minutes to an hour after it is taken. While Cialis, made by Eli Lilly, starts working from 30 minutes to six hours after ingestion, the paper said.
